 This offering is for a bare PCB, all parts have to be installed  and soldered on the PCB

 INTRODUCTION

            The Tactical Radio Gear, Universal H.V. power supply is intended for amateur radio amplifiers, requiring up-to a 4.5KV plate supply. The design is conservatively rated for 4500 VDC @ 2A ICS; and contains most everything needed on one PC board.

160k Ohms ±5% 3W Through Hole Resistor Axial Flame Retardant Coating, Pulse Withstanding, Safety Metal Film.

470k Ohms ±5% 2W Through Hole Resistor Axial Flame Retardant Coating, Pulse Withstanding, Safety Metal Film

All of the components contained in the KIT are of the highest quality, safety & reliability. In-order to keep the price of the KIT at an affordable price, the components, hardware and PCB are purchased at the 100 quantity level, which on average is the best price break for the overall Bill of Materials.

          This Universal H.V. power supply is unique, in that either a Bridge or voltage-doubler configuration can be selected. Every feasible protection & safety option has been included in this design. That transformer you have been hanging on to, but due to the voltage being too low, it would not power that tube you have been saving? Now you can double that transformers DC voltage, and get started building.

This product is also available as a completely assembled, and tested High Voltage DC Power supply, or as a just a bare PCB. See these options in a separate offering(s).

          The PCB layout uses the popular snap-in electrolytic capacitors: The Universal H.V. power supply uses the common  35mm, (1.39”) diameter snap-in   capacitors.
(10) 450V/470uF capacitors, each one having provisions for its own 160K/3W equalizing resistor.

        PCB LAYOUT SPECIFICATIONS

  • (10) x 35mm×40mm, capacitors: 470uF @ 450vdc. Temperature rating 105c
  • (20) x 1KV/10 Amp diodes, with 600A peak surge (10A10) 5 x per leg.
  • Board comes with 1/4” push-on terminals for all wire connections, or solder to the board.
  • PCB KIT comes standard, with (5) X ¼” X 2” Nylon stand-offs’
  • PCB MECHANICAL DETAILS
  • The PCB is FR4, 2mm thick board, with 2 ounce copper.
  • Dimensions: 6.9” x 7.97”. The PCB KIT comes with a template for the mounting-hole pattern. (5) X 8-32 mounting holes are provided, for the insulated 2” stand-offs, to mount the     PCB.
  • (5) X ¼” - Spade lugs, provide convenient connections, to make installation & removal of the module fast & easy.

     A .01uF @ 1KV disc, capacitor is provided for each of the HV diodes. These caps suppress the commutation spikes that are generated, when the diodes turn on to charge the    reservoir capacitor near the peak of the input sine wave.These suppression capacitors are especially essential for sensitive equipment, like high-performance transceivers’ where commutation spikes can infiltrate the whole system?

  • Each diode has a 160K/3W equalizing resistor, for additional spike/surge and glitch protection; common with some types of tubes; and AC Line service(s)? They also provide a bleed-down path.
  • Provisions for customer provided meter multiplier resistors, are located at both the B- & B+ ends of the power supply. Multiple accessory (3W) resistor outlines, are provided on each buss, to allow the user to design their own IP monitoring arrangement & glitch resistor placement if mounted off the PCB?
  • A detailed Instruction Manual is available to assist in the assembly and installation process.
