Bandpass filters are essential in preventing receiver front end damage during multiple HF radio operation. Tactical Radio filters are available for all HF amateur bands, including 6 & 2 meters. All models are supplied with UHF Female/SO-239 connectors; N-connectors can be substituted. Designed to provide a roll-off outside each Amateur band; these filters bring the benefit of a dramatically lower noise floor; for improved single-band, weak signal reception; necessary for contest and Field Day operations; or simply crowded band conditions!

These compact HF Transmit/receive filters, accomplish out-of-band suppression, which effectively eliminates noise and interfering signals. Simply place the filter in-line between the transceiver, antenna or an amplifier.

If you are planning a DXpedition, a contest, or simply need the enhanced performance that a bandpass filter can provide, your radio needs these filters. Tactical Radio Gear filters are the most cost-effective, single band filters on the market. The cutting-edge advantages that these outstanding filters can provide; to improve image, and intrusive harmonic problems, for mono-band, multi-radio contest settings cannot be overstated.

Tactical Radio Gear filters are essential for use with transmit multiplexers, as these filters will augment the separation needed to tolerate multiple radios on different bands at the same time - on the same antenna. When used in combination with multiplexers; known as multi-band transmit combiners; it is essential for each multiplexer band to provide the additional isolation necessary to allow the operation of multiple transceivers; all transceivers in a particular situation, can operate in chorus, unhindered by the signals from radios operating on the other bands - or even on the same antenna.

The BPF-200 series filter design is based on a 3-pole configuration(s), that maintain a 50 Ohm impedance, and low insertion loss. The filter topology is not at DC ground, allowing the use of bias-t voltage, without the necessity of having to use a DC block, in order to prevent a short circuit.

These HF Transmit/receive Bandpass Filters, are of very high-quality, and specifically designed to limit the RF bandpass to a single Amateur band.

Computer modeled in Spice, the design is L-section matching to the capacitive coupled resonator; excellent for cascading without parasitic pass-bands. The filters are symmetrical, thus the input and output are not critical.

Hi-Q Precision Silver Mica capacitors, and heavy-duty inductors, are used in the L/C tuned circuits. Frequencies harmonically related to the central frequency from upper & lower side are attenuated 30dB or more. Each filter is individually tuned on a state of the art computer testing system

VSWR & POWER CONSIDERATIONS

Hi VSWR conditions will generate damaging RF voltages, and currents in a bandpass filter. VSWR is a reality that we have to be attentive to; and Tactical radio gear has made every effort to protect the filter components from these potentially damaging forces.

These designs are over-engineered, with vigilant consideration to component selection. No expenditure was spared to insure the reliability and performance of our filters.

The weak-link in some Bandpass filters; in a high VSWR condition, are the capacitors. Tactical Radio Gear, uses High-Frequency, High-Current, High-Voltage, Silver Mica capacitors; ideal for use where multilayer ceramic caps are not recommended because of cracking. The natural mica dielectric retains it’s extremely high-Q to many megahertz; and is free from thermal cracking. Silver Mica capacitors are Ideal for tuned L/C Circuits & High RF current. Unlike NPO ceramic capacitors, these capacitors are rock stable - no change with time, V & f and a temperature Range of -55 ºC to +125 ºC. Individual capacitance Tolerance: ±5% @ 500vdc. While RoHS Compliant.

The inductors in our filters are wound with the largest possible gauge wire, consistent with sensible design practices. Depending on the band, models with toroid cores when used, are selected for the largest gauge wire, and minimum turns, to minimize IR losses/heating.

Notwithstanding the robust design, operator(s) should endeavor to maintain a minimum VSWR when using these filters.

Tactical Radio Gear, BPF-200 model filters, are designed for use with 100W/200W PEP transceivers.

Note: The BPF-200 filter(s) can be operated @ a 100% duty cycle. SSB speech (50% duty), CW average power is roughly equivalent to speech.

CAUTION: The BPF-200 is designed to be connected, between the radio output and amplifier input.  If the filter is installed on the output of an amplifier, it will be destroyed almost instantly!

Additionally, DO NOT use a transceiver Auto Tuner into any bandpass filter, the risk of high current and/or high-voltage may damage the filter and radio.

CAUTION: Do not transmit with the BPF-200 in-line, when another band, other than the one that is listed on the BPF-200! This can potentially damage both the radio and the filter!

Consider using our PROTEKTOR Band Pass filter By-Pass product, in-order to conveniently switch the filter out of line, without having to disconnect coax cables and filters.

See filter products for additional information. Note: The BPF-200 is available with a combined By-Pass feature, see our WHAT'S NEW button for more details.
